What's on TV: Thursday, July 16, 1959

We're back in Philadelphia this week; I suspect the numerous issues from Philly must have been bought at the same time, probably at the Mid Atlantic Nostalgia Convention last year. Although Twin Cities issues are always going to be my favorites, I have to admit a fondness for these Philadelphia ones. First, the city has such a rich television history; I've only scratched the surface with some of the observations I've made, which leads me to think I may have to spend a future piece talking about it at greater length. Second, even though it's not from the Central time zone, I can identify with the listings in a way I don't always do - Los Angeles or Atlanta, for example. Don't know why that's the case, it just is.

  1. "Big Rascals"? After the success of showing "Our Gang" shorts on tv under the name "Little Rascals", was this an attempt to show other old-time shorts, this time featuring adult actors? I vaguely remember this title.

    1. Here in Chicago, Channel 9 used this title for old RKO shorts, with Leon Errol, Edgar Kennedy, and Gil Lamb.
I've seen Big Rascals used in other cities, but I couldn't say whose shorts were used.

    2. Maybe "Big Rascals" were syndicated by the same people who distributed "The Little Rascals".
