Brad Schwarz.
The book won't be out until August, but it never hurts to get ahead.
Actually this will be a busy year for my friend MAC; he's also working on Mickey Spillane's centenary, with more works new(ish) and old coming up, plus a new collaboration with his wife Barb in their comedy-cozy mystery series Trash 'n' Treasures, and maybe even that new Nate Heller novel about the Sam Sheppard case (hopefully by year's end, if all goes well).
Jeez Loueez, I can't figure out how he's finding time for the weekend at C2E2 - but I'm glad he is ...
Seriously, though, if you should happen to find yourself in Chicago on Sunday morning, you might want to drop by McCormick Place around noon, and meet a very interesting guy ...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05527404061764217504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-81118152233844653782018-04-03T16:20:09.956-04:002018-04-03T16:20:09.956-04:00Jack Linkletter (Art's son) was best known as ...Jack Linkletter (Art's son) was best known as host of "Hootenanny", a folk-music show that appeared on ABC's Saturday-night schedule for almost a year-and-a-half in 1963 and 1964.

"Hootenanny" was taped on-location at college campuses, village squares, and auditoriums around the country. Premiering as a summer replacement in 1963, it was popular enough for ABC to renew it for the 1963-64 Fall season.

And until the end of 1963, "Hootenanny" remained quite popular. But in early 1964, the show's ratings abruptly plunged, and ABC pulled the plug at the end of the season.

The culprit? The "British Music Invasion". By the spring of 1964, more people were interested in seeing the Beatles than the Kingston Trio.

(It should also be noted that a couple of major folk-music stars were "blacklisted" from appearing on "Hootenanny", and that a few other big folk-music stars declined invitations to do the show for that reason)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-78759494114034839042018-04-02T21:09:24.429-04:002018-04-02T21:09:24.429-04:00Mike, thank you for the wealth of information! So ...Mike, thank you for the wealth of information! So much showbiz history in just a random week's listings. I mistakenly assumed ON THE GO was just replaying old Stooges shorts, so fascinated to hear it was actual interviews and that they're available. And I too am a fan of Alan Caillou--the writer and the actor. A talented man I first became aware of when he played the Head on QUARK in the late '70s. I also enjoyed his UNCLE episodes, especially the two he wrote starring Anne Francis and John van Dreelen. PS: And anyone with kids will know how to pronounce Caillou thanks to that bizarre Canadian cartoon that's a PBS staple. (Oh, no! Now the themes song is stuck in my head!)Gary R. He joined Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and their families for a picnic, where Jack Linkletter conducted the interview.
When Paul Howard (Moe's son) put together his massive DVD documentary about the family business, he included numerous clips from the On The Go show, where they may be seen by all.

- Be Our Guest was one of James Aubrey's gifts to his friend Keefe Brasselle, in exchange for access to the Profaci Family of Manhattan, who in their turn got Aubrey out of a "personal difficulty", If You Know What I Mean ...

- The U. S. Steel Hour looks interesting:
"How To Make A Killing" was a comedy-mystery with Eva Gabor (the one really talented Gabor sister), Claude Dauphin (the guy you got when you couldn't afford Chevalier), and Robert Loggia (trotting out his dialects).
But what interests me is the writer: Alan Caillou (KY-you), a British actor who was getting into screenwriting.
A few years afterward, Caillou became one of the earliest writers on The Man From UNCLE (also occasionally acting in episodes).
A very interesting guy; you should look him up sometime.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05527404061764217504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-38431253221121680752018-04-02T16:44:30.144-04:002018-04-02T16:44:30.144-04:00HOME RUN DERBY!!! I had just turned eight years old, and I may have missed the debut episode, but as a huge baseball fan who had a bedtime of 9 PM, I actually got it waived on Monday nights to watch HRD. Watched it time and again when ESPN reran it in the 90s. Man, they'd be better off bringing it back now.Randy Monknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-84940211154117451082018-04-02T13:11:29.744-04:002018-04-02T13:11:29.744-04:00Fun reading, especially for me living in Omaha, Ne...Fun reading, especially for me living in Omaha, Nebraska. But not in 1960 (I was still seven years away from my premiere!). A couple changes since '60 is WOW--now WOWT/6--is now an NBC affiliate and KMTV/3 is CBS. WOW stood for Woodmen of the World, a fraternal insurance company still headquartered in downtown Omaha.

So many great shows on back then (well, Physics, Audio-Visual Education, and Championship Bowling are exceptions)! SECRET STORM I know only as one of Mrs. Cunningham's soaps. Great guest stars on variety shows: Allen and Rossi on PERRY COMO and Brock Peters on SPRING NIGHT. Did he sing, too? I know him from his many acting roles, especially SOYLENT GREEN. COLLEGE AT HOME was ahead of its time in this day of online ed. Gary R.
