They talk about the end of the anti-hero era of TV. Maybe, it's that simple...among the unlikeable reality shows and disappointing continuing dramas, perhaps this has just been a two decade era that might be the last significant era in TV, as we know it. (Certainly, live TV viewing is at an all-time low, with the Internet, Netflix, etc.) In addition, there may be a general disillusionment with society, as seen with these hyper-realistic dramas that really aren't flattering to way things are. <br /><br />In regards to what's so rotten about modern TV, it seems to come down to two things. First, the way that all of the networks are trying to hit home runs with their programming, literally for their own survival. The only kinds of shows that get the attention of the recappers on TV blogs are single-camera comedies and realistic, continuing dramas. Nothing else creates the buzz they're looking for, since that's the expectation of younger viewers. Second, ensemble dramas keep the costs down, with no big star to pay big bucks to...if an actor speaks up, kill of their character...that's what snuff TV is all about. The only consolation is that reruns of these newer shows don't do well at all, except from some online streaming, which differs from older fare.Jimnoreply@blogger.com
