Shoop of the Strategic Air Command.
Cummings was a USAF vet, with many friends in the brass, which explains the booking. (Just in case you read the listing and wonder how it came about.)"

Playing a fictionalized version of himself, Shoop guest starred on LOVE THAT BOB/THE BOB CUMMINGS SHOW multiple times as Bob's commanding officer in the Air Force reserves. I reviewed this episode, "Colonel Goldbrick", at The Horn Section awhile back. It also guest stars Mrs. Jack Webb (at the time), Jackie Loughery (who also guest starred on the show more than once).

In fact, Cummings and Shoop went way back--Cummings did multiple films with the future Mrs. Shoop, Julie Bishop, and she was also his co-star in MY HERO, Cummings' first TV series. If memory serves, Shoop and Bishop met while Shoop was a technical advisor on a film starring Cummings and Bishop.Halhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09291930694234773688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-61517821183100160992016-05-28T19:52:19.073-04:002016-05-28T19:52:19.073-04:00I have the Chicago edition of this one, but I reme...I have the Chicago edition of this one, but I remember what my friend Max Allan Collins told me about network affiliations in Iowa at this time.
Thus, whichever day you select for Monday is going be a crazy quilt of delayed broadcasts at the very least.
Here's a condensed day-to-day of fully-affiliated Chicago this week:

Saturday:
Perry Mason: Still in its first season, here's "The Case Of The Lazy Lover".
This one gets more notice than most these days, because of two of its guest performers. Assuming your Iowa edition has a cast list in the listing, you might want to check it out and see for yourself ...
(Yes, this is a challenge/quiz; I want to see if you're really reading these.)

Sunday:
Alfred Hitchcock Presents "A Dip In The Pool", written by Roald Dahl and directed by Hitch himself.
This is the one with Keenan Wynn on a cruise ship, trying to rig a betting pool on how much mileage the ship will make in a given day.

Monday:
Suspicion, on NBC, was a strange setup.
They did 40 shows this season: 20 were live broadcasts from New York; 10 were produced on film by Alfred Hitchcock's Shamley Productions, and 10 more were done by a unit at Revue (what MCA-Universal was calling its TV unit back then).
This week's show was from the third group: "Death Watch", starring Edmond O'Brien, and directed by Ray Milland.
There's a story in the color section about actors taking up direction, which I guess is supposed to tie in here.

Tuesday:
Bob Cummings's sitcom has an interesting guest star: Maj. The 70s specials that are their most readily available are hit and miss, some have aged badly, but they were funny more often than not IMO.

Halhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09291930694234773688noreply@blogger.com
