You could tell Cronkite really didn't want to hear him speculating that JFK was dead - partly as a newsman (Barker himself admitted it was a gut instinct to go with the report), and I suspect partly because it was a report everyone knew was true, but nobody wanted to hear.Mitchell Hadleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08695771505209080030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-72674234453104425742017-07-01T03:02:35.658-04:002017-07-01T03:02:35.658-04:00At least it did on ABC-TV. It's been a regret of mine that Eddie died before we moved to Dallas; my copy of his book, which I picked up at a used book store, happens to be autographed; I would have loved to have gotten it from him personally and listened to some more of those great stories.Mitchell Hadleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08695771505209080030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-15232287296076003092014-07-17T02:15:29.839-04:002014-07-17T02:15:29.839-04:00What a great blog post about Eddie Barker. Thank you, Mitchell, for the insight into Mr. Barker's "Notebook".

Barker has been a favorite of mine since I saw his coverage of the JFK assassination. Sitting right next to Dan Rather the day after the tragedy, Eddie provided a lot of interesting information, told from the perspective of someone who knew Dallas (and Texas) inside-out. He sure gives you that impression during his November '63 KRLD & CBS coverage at any rate. And this blog post by Mitchell Hadley would certainly tend to back up that fact.

Eddie Barker passed away almost exactly two years ago (on July 23, 2012). You can watch his complete coverage from the Trade Mart on 11/22/63 at the link below. (Well, it's the most "complete" version I have ever found, taken from the KRLD-TV raw tapes.)

KRLD-TV COVERAGE ON NOVEMBER 22, 1963
David Von Peinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12501570830179992520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-38011954809081441242014-07-17T02:12:19.424-04:002014-07-17T02:12:19.424-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.David Von Peinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12501570830179992520noreply@blogger.com
