Folk Guitar, hosted by Laura Weber, was a production of the Bay Area's KQED and ran on the NET feed. I have no fondness for folk music, so I don't have any memories to share myself, but here's a clip from a 1969 episode.

Lawbreaker, as I think I've mentioned before, was hosted by Lee Marvin, and was a sort of docudrama, in which various crimes were re-created, using as many of the original participants as possible, including in some cases the criminals involved. You could tell most of the people involved weren't professional actors (or even amateur ones), but it was still interesting.

James "Scotty" Reston, host of the 8:00 p.m. show, was one of the best-known and most respected Washington correspondents of the time, working for many years for The New York Times. I think we can, therefore, assume that this program was about the political scene, and might have touched on Vietnam.

Movie – “The Lady

|
That 5:00 p.m. show, People, Pests, Pesticides, sounds like a real winner, doesn't it? TV
"Eye Guess" was intended as a comedy game-show,. with the laughs coming from wrong answers.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Bill Cullen is gone, I'd like to see a revival of the show, again with a comedy orientation as in the original.
Bob Stewart Productions did attempt an 80s revival of EYE GUESS called EYE Q. It went as far as a pilot hosted by Henry Polic II, who had hosted [CELEBRITY] DOUBLE TALK for Stewart in 1986.
DeleteA few clips of that exact episode of YOU DON'T SAY! aired during Tom Hanks' movie "That Thing You Do". If you look carefully at the color tvs at Guy's dad's appliance store while the group members are rejoicing at hearing their song for the first time, you can see clips of the show's logo followed by Mel Torme turning around and delivering his line, aired out of order from the actual show. This episode originally aired the next week on March 22, 1967.
Loved Eye Guess, and had the REAL home version! LOL
DeleteAs you've pointed out in the past, Minneapolis-St. Paul TV stations were wont to preempt network offerings when the occasion arose.
ReplyDeleteSince the Julie Harris Tarzan was the second of two parts, this begs a question:
Did KSTP carry part one the previous Friday?
If so, did they carry part 2 as a make-good at some later time (such as Saturday afternoon)?
Or did they just not carry Tarzan at all?
Just curious ...
- Here in Chicago, WMAQ-channel 5 carried live coverage of the downtown St. Patrick's Day Parade, at 1:30 -3:00 pm, in place of The Doctors, Another World, and You Don't Say!
I don't know for certain whether ch5 ran make-goods, of the soaps at least.
- Staying local:
I can't recall the exact dates involved, but it was about this time that WCIU-Channel 26, which was in its third year of existence, begin to devote its daytime hours - about 9:00 am to 4:00 pm - to Stock Market Observer, which was mainly talking heads giving out business news and occasional interviews, with the bottom third of the screen scrolling stock quotations non-stop; this ran on ch26 for well over a decade.
Did any Minn stations do anything like this?
The clip you've provided from Laura Weber's "Folk Guitar" on KTCA-2 features none other than Jorma Kaukonen & bassist Jack Cassidy, two-thirds of the San Fransisco band Hot Tuna. These two are still performing together in the band to this day. Originally both were among the original members of Jefferson Airplane...Mike in British Columbia
ReplyDeletePDQ was a syndicated game that was revamped a bit and showed up on NBC a few years later as "Baffle," hosted by sportscaster Dick Enberg. One member of a team would try to guess a word put up on a board by the other in as few letters as possible. I believe the idea was later adopted for license plates.
ReplyDeleteBack when the Minnesota Basketball tournament was fed statewide to various stations around the state. IIRC the station in Austin MN picked it up as well as a station in Fargo/Moorhead so the entire state could see it. The feeding went on through at least 1989 as I remember watching the tourney that year on a local station in my DMA.(We had moved to a new house and didn't get a booster on our anntenna to get the Twin Cities). After that I'm not sure. I went in 1990 and after that I was in college in the KMSP(they had the rights then) DMA
