As I recall, The CBS Morning News was a 30-minute broadcast (25, if you exclude five minutes for local news) that was then repeated, filling the whole hour. Stations could either air the half-hour or full-hour version. If anything new happened in the second half-hour, I imagine CBS would update it.

"Satan Never Sleeps" - what a great title for a movie! It's not the schlocky slasher movie you might think; it's the story of two Catholic priests (William Holden and Clifton Webb) battling against Chinese Communists. Not noted in the TV Guide is that it was the final movie directed by Leo McCarey, who directed "Going My Way" and "The Bells of St. Mary's," as well as the final movie appearance by Clifton Webb.

Clever idea, having Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Don Meredith on Match Game, just months after facing off in the Ice Bowl. I seem to remember Match Game having this kind of casting on occasion - I think all game shows must have done this once in a while.

Dollars for Scholars is a fundraiser - a mini-telethon, I suppose - to raise money for scholarships to the Morris campus of the University of Minnesota. Morris is about ten miles from where I lived in The World's Worst Town™, a very nice small city. It is not, as far as I know, named after the orange cat.

I wonder why Death Valley Days is listed as a drama rather than a western? As far as I can remember, all the episodes were either straight westerns or took place in the old west. After all, the original host of the show was called "The Old Ranger." Oh well.

I've noticed in these listings that Dark Shadows shows up on quite a few non-ABC affiliates, such as WEAU. Granted, it was easier back then to purchase time for a show on another affiliate, but this does speak to how popular the show was, that it had to be on in your market. TV
Um, Mr. Hadley, I'm afraid that once again, I have no choice but to give u an INC-that's incomplete. Where are the listings for WDIO Duluth, KTTC Rochester and KEYC in Mankato? I know u only have so much time to get this done, but that's no excuse for leaving things out. PLEASE REDO THIS BLOG!
ReplyDeleteA few years ago I bought a copy of Soupy Sales' bio, SOUPY SEZ. In one place he provides the text that Bob Stewart Productions saved from a preinterview before he appeared on PERSONALITY. It featured lots of free association, where Soupy was supposed to say the first thing that came to mind. Here's an example:
ReplyDeleteBob: Men who cheat...
Soupy: ...shouldn't play Solitaire.
I think that WEAU carried DARK SHADOWS because the La Crosse/Eau Claire tv market didn't have an ABC affiliate until 1970, when a satellite of Madison's ABC affiliate went on the air in La Crosse.
