There's a documentary on KSBW at 7:30 p.m. called The Epic of Flight, part of the Time-Life series of TV specials. (Not to be confused with The Epic of Flight series of books, published by Time-Life.) I have very vague memories of having seen this back in Minneapolis, primarily because I was interested in airplanes, especially those used in World War I. (Good fodder for a six-year-old.) Nowadays you'd see something like this on the History Channel or one of its clones, although it would probably be five or six minutes shorter because of commercials, and you'd lose another few minutes spent recapping what happened before the commercials. (If you've seen a History Channel doc you'll know what I mean.) I think this would easily win the evening for me, as opposed to the documentary on men in prisons that CBS is showing. Anyway, find your favorites from this Northern California edition.

TV
You're so right about many 21st Century history, military, or wildlife shows, hashing over what one has just seen. Makes for a cheaper production, I guess.
ReplyDeleteThe main anchor at KGO-TV at the time was also its news director, Roger Grimsby. Two years from here, he would transfer to New York sister station WABC-TV, months before the launch of "Eyewitness News."
ReplyDeleteKGO was also the first of the ABC O&O's to utilize the "Circle 7" logo, designed by G. Dean Smith and first put on the air at that station on Aug. 27, 1962. It wasn't until four months later - in December - that that logo would be applied to the other owned stations (WABC-TV New York; WBKB [later WLS-TV] Chicago; WXYZ-TV Detroit; and KABC-TV Los Angeles). Though some claim this logo predated Paul Rand's 'abc' in a circle logo by four months, the earliest I saw of Rand's logo anywhere in print was in trade magazines dated Oct. 15, 1962.
