He had more hits on the hot 100 (9) without any of them hitting the top 40.

Thank you so much for this blog/column. Joyce Brothers and Frank Baxter, who plainly were having a ball.
Dr. Baxter in particular was in his element, displaying what his colleagues knew was a proclivity for puns and wordplay, which served him well in the playing of the game.
You Don't Say! began with the celebs giving a clue to their own names:
"People put their money in the _____ "
"Mattress?"
" No - Bank! I'm Dr. Bank Fraxter!"
Summer Phunne!

And right after that:
The Match Game (the old, clean version) did Game Show Week, with Bill Leyden and Art James doing panel duty for Gene Rayburn.
Rayburn was a frequent guest on Call My Bluff, where he and Leyden would regularly rag on each other; on one of this week's shows, Rayburn switched places with Art James taking over as host, and Bill and Gene running amok.
The civilian contestants seemed to be having fun with it all ...

Elsewhere:
Today the bicycle brought to KSTP (ch5) Lloyd Thaxton's dance party, which I must have seen the previous week in Chicago.
This is one I wish I had a copy of - check the guests and you'll know why:
Where else were you going to see the Dave Brubeck Quartet and Peter, Paul, and Mary - performing together?
Between numbers, Lloyd had a nice chat-up with Dave Brubeck and Peter Yarrow, talking up the possibilities of Jazz and Folk (would they call it Fazz - or Jolk?).
Thaxton's regular teen clientele seemed to get a kick out of the performance (demographics didn't exist back then).
I can't find this particular Thaxton show on YouTube; if anyone knows where it can be found, by all means correct me ...

By the bye, in case no one else notices:
Your listing for KMSP (ch9) has a hole in it:
Peyton Place should be at 8:30, and The Fugitive should be at 9:00.
(I'm fairly certain that Walter Brennan didn't do a two-hour Tycoon that night ...)Mike Doranhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14427528138598549103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-81507922251935570062021-08-09T09:23:19.028-04:002021-08-09T09:23:19.028-04:00THE MATCH GAME also had a matchup of similar guest...THE MATCH GAME also had a matchup of similar guest stars: game show hosts Bill Leyden (then of CALL MY BLUFF) and Art James (between SAY WHEN! and FRACTURED PHRASES).Jonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00483417885845331990noreply@blogger.com
