The best review header i have seen for this was "Skip the message, enjoy the acting".jim32https://www.blogger.com/profile/14831371087599873119noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-5410589496262811062015-12-14T07:41:23.333-05:002015-12-14T07:41:23.333-05:00'Carol' was just shown this morning (4:30a...'Carol' was just shown this morning (4:30am EST 12-14-15) on TCM.(I think Dickens spins in his grave every time this POS airs.)

TCM still haven't put back Mancini's theme, which is probably a good thing for his memory, not being associated with this incredibly bad re-write - more like a rip-off of one of everyone's favorite Dicken's short stories. It would've been like putting a Rolex on a corpse. Nothing could breathe life into this thing.

I couldn't believe how many B-stars lent their names & talents to this garbage. Even their combined skills couldn't turn this sow's ear into a silk purse. Watching Peter Sellers in that outlandish 'Me' suit was almost painful. It isn't that he didn't try, but not even Barrymore or Bogart could've rescued this nonsense from itself. His performance reminded me of a man trying to bail out a sinking rowboat with a strainer. It's an awful lot of energy wasted on certain failure.

Carol for Another Christmas is a perfect example of what happens when political devotees try to shove their views down peoples' throats. It makes you gag & want to throw up. "The Poppy Is Also a Flower" was the last of the four movies made by the Telsun Foundation for the UN - the other two being "Once Upon a Tractor" and "Who Has Seen the Wind?" "Poppy" was a bomb, even with Trevor Howard as one of the stars, and Princess Grace as the hostess. Considering what great casts these movies have, it shows what happens when you try to preach rather than create.

"Carol" was deeply flawed for that and many reasons, but it did have potential - as I mentioned, it could have been a very provocative reinterpretation of the story, had it not fallen into that didactic trap.Mitchell Hadleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08695771505209080030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-59839002033395689132013-01-08T20:24:49.821-05:002013-01-08T20:24:49.821-05:00I missed this when TCM showed it :( Even though i...I missed this when TCM showed it :( Even though it doesn't sound good, it still sounds kinda interesting. Around the same time period, I think the UN helped finance a dreadful, international drug-smuggling movie called THE POPPY IS ALSO A FLOWER.Rick29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08358116647815569722noreply@blogger.com
