Pyramid would briefly return in daily syndication in January 1981 as the $50,000 Pyramid before moving back to CBS in September 1982 as the The New $25,000 Pyramid.anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17106843336743036020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-71187516262321902102021-01-01T20:00:24.369-05:002021-01-01T20:00:24.369-05:00WDCA/20 in DC started airing the Little Rascals ag...WDCA/20 in DC started airing the Little Rascals again in the early 80s in the 5 o'clock hour - this was around the time Eddie Murphy's Buckwheat impression was a sensation on SNL. Around the same time, WBFF/45 was airing the "Our Gang" series in the mornings.anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17106843336743036020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-45312304803673576922020-12-12T23:28:23.539-05:002020-12-12T23:28:23.539-05:00As late as 1980, NBC was still "wiping" ...As late as 1980, NBC was still "wiping" tapes of many of its non-news, non-prime-time programs (game shows, etc.) (ABC and CBS had already stopped the wiping process by the mid-to-late 1970s.) The wiping process is the main reason why relatively few Marshall/Lynde era Hollywood Squares episodes and pre-1972 Carson Tonight Shows survive today. Apparently, the Tom Snyder Tomorrow Show episodes just barely missed wiping, as NBC finally abandoned the process around the time Letterman's Late Night signed on. anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17106843336743036020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-78966313214210767842015-05-29T15:14:16.607-04:002015-05-29T15:14:16.607-04:00Didn't Alfred Hitchcock recently pass away and...Didn't Alfred Hitchcock recently pass away and the producers of "Tomorrow" decide to rebroadcast the 1973 interview as a tribute??Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-49593539451898958222015-05-27T17:20:09.384-04:002015-05-27T17:20:09.384-04:00You're right, Mike - I've noticed the same...You're right, Mike - I've noticed the same thing as I've started branching out into different areas. Interestingly enough, in my first draft of this I actually called it "Nightline" instead of what the TV Guide had, "ABC News." I changed it back because I wanted it to be a fair representation of the listings as they were, and also because I didn't have a chance to check and see when the change to Nightline was, and I was afraid I'd get called on it!Mitchell Hadleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08695771505209080030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-91296376967555363282015-05-25T14:17:03.646-04:002015-05-25T14:17:03.646-04:00Quick check of my references shows that ABC starte...Quick check of my references shows that ABC started calling the late news show Nightline in March of 1980 - two months before this issue.
Why didn't the Phoenix TV Guide say so?
My understanding was that the local editors had responsibility for compiling the program logs.
If you went from city to city, you'd sometimes notice variations in program identification.

Mike Dorannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-33905195504002143672015-05-25T11:18:33.730-04:002015-05-25T11:18:33.730-04:00Unusual to see KOAI showing "The Little Rasca...Unusual to see KOAI showing "The Little Rascals". By 1980, even small market network stations rarely aired B&W programming in the afternoon.
"Nightline" was originally called "America Held Hostage" when it debuted in late 1979. Anyone know when they dropped the original name, and when they switched to general news coverage?Al Leosnoreply@blogger.com
