My home DMA was the one that got our CBS station from Mason City IA so we got the Iowa tourneys. I'n guessing the Wisconsin tourneys aired on one of the Duluth TV stations. And I know for a fact that this was the 1st year WTCN got the MSHSL Basketball tournaments back as an NBC affiliate. The previous two years KMSP had them. KSTP had the hockey tourney one more year and then it went to WCCO for 9 seasons. Also the 1979 Hockey tournament dates were March 15-17 which was only 1 1/2 weeks after they became the ABC affiliate on Minneapolis. So as a result Stanley Hubbard went all out in getting big name ABC celebrities to attend the tourney. And FWIW the attendance record was broken this past year for the tourney.paulsonj72https://www.blogger.com/profile/18118231322032199900noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-1477815273545300652015-04-12T10:47:41.264-04:002015-04-12T10:47:41.264-04:00Mitchell, I've enjoyed your look through Ameri...Mitchell, I've enjoyed your look through American life, sports and politics via TV GUIDE. But a minor quibble with this entry...Your description of William Katt as "last seen playing Paul Drake Jr. in the PERRY MASON movies" is technically inaccurate. Those movies did not start airing until 1985. Plus, weren't they sued by the writers of the "MASH" movie or something like that?Al Leosnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6042603612494762084.post-11862419746969471322015-03-15T00:46:25.624-04:002015-03-15T00:46:25.624-04:00I always found Trapper John M.D. at least watchabl...I always found Trapper John M.D. at least watchable, until the final season (Gonzo's stroke, many forgettable episodes and a cast overhaul). Pernell Roberts and Madge Sinclair helped a great deal. Both were excellent and received Emmy noms (Sinclair three times), though the show was more than a little derivative of Medical Center. Same production team I believe.

I remember Mr. Buscagila doing a "Word From Unity" more than once. Those commercial spots were inescapable in the afternoons during my 70s childhood; I still see them turn up on VHS tapings as late as the mid 80's.

And you've neglected to mention the greatness that was Sheriff Lobo on Tuesday nights. :-)Halhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09291930694234773688noreply@blogger.com
