I come to you today with the Chicago ...Hello again.
I come to you today with the Chicago edition of TV Forecast, which ultimately merged with the many local TV Guides to form the national magazine a few years afterwards.
The networks were still setting up at this point (the coast-to-coast coaxial cable had only just been hooked up), so "national" shows were few and far between.
There were some shows which matched up between New York and Chicago; here are a few from Monday:
- Did the New York edition have loglines for episodes? The Chicago magazine did - and my Olde DVD Wall is coming through for me in unexpected ways.
On NBC (Channel 5 here), at 8 pm there's Lights Out presenting "The Deal", with Tom Ewell selling his wife to the Devil - and then trying to void the sale; it's a morality play with an uplifting ending (sort of).
By the way, the Devil is played here by Joseph Wiseman (pre-Dr. No), with an assist from Martin Gabel, while the wife is played by a young Anne Bancroft (then known as Anne Marno - but that's another story ...).
I've got that show on DVD; regrettably, I don't have the one that follows, Robert Montgomery Presents "I Wouldn't Be In Your Shoes", from a classic Cornell Woolrich story; on the lookout for that one ...
Earlier that evening on ABC, there's Hollywood Screen Test, a talent show hosted by Neil Hamilton (yes, Batfans, Commissioner Gordon himself (eventually, anyway)), with an assist from Arlene Francis (Mrs. Martin Gabel, op cit.).
- Later that same evening, I was pleased to see that the ABC network picked up Studs' Place from our own Channel 7, with Studs Terkel, Win Stracke, Chet Roble, and Bev Younger.
I'm caught in a time bind today, so I have to stand down momentarily; back with more later (I hope).
Mike Doranhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14427528138598549103noreply@blogger.com
