What's on TV? Monday, July 17, 1961

We came very close, it would appear, to having a different lede altogether for today, one not nearly as light-hearted; as it is, however, it's business as usual, at least looking at the week's TV listings. And a good thing it is, because today we have one of those wonderful juxtapositions in programming that I'm so fond of, the kind that almost makes you wonder if the local stations conspired to create the effect for TV Guide readers. At 11:25 p.mn., WHIO in Dayton is showing the movie The Devil is a Woman, with May Britt. Meanwhile, at 11:30 p.m., WCPO in Cincinnati has Brigette Bardot in That Naughty Girl. So who do you go with? When it comes to misbehaving, you've got to go with Bardot, right? This unintended humor, as well as the rest of the listings, comes from the Southern Ohio edition.

What's on TV? Thursday, July 26, 1956

Idon't know how it is that I got a supply of TV Guides from Ohio, although I suspect I must have at one time or another purchased them from the same vendor. Anyway, 1956 is one of the older issues we've looked at, and you can see a lot of movement in the affiliations; we even have a couple of stations that bill themselves as being part of DuMont, although that network will cease to operate next month, and in fact even now the only regular programming they offer is boxing. We don't see that tonight, so it's up to the three networks to entertain us. Let's see how well they do.

What's on TV? Sunday, July 24, 1960

I wasn't quite sure what day to choose for this week's listings, but finally settled on Sunday; with convention coverage dominating both daytime and prime time, I wanted something that gives a better sense of what's actually on. Sunday it is! There's still a smattering of convention preview coverage, but it coexists with religious programming, sports, and of course the ever-present matinee movies.

Our listings this week come from Southern Ohio, an area in which we've had many pleasant visits in the past.

What's on TV? Monday, November 1, 1965

Happy Halloween, everyone! We haven't done a Monday for awhile, so why not now? We're in Ohio, one of at least two states that can lay claim to being the Birthplace of Presidents (Virginia being the other), so it's an appropriate place to be one week before the end of the campaign that wouldn't end. There are more stations in this issue than you can shake a stick at (though why you'd want to do that is a mystery to me), so we'll concentrate on Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton. And away we go.

What's on TV? Monday, July 23, 1956

If you hadn't already noticed by reading Saturday's piece, the stations this week have some very interesting call letters. There's WLW-D in Dayton, WLW-C in Columbus, and WLW-T in Cincinnati, for example. I think it's safe to assume all three are owned by the same company, which in fact was the case. They were owned by the Crosley Broadcasting Company, the same Crosley that made the radios, and the same Crosley after whom Cincinnati's Crosley Field was named. In fact, two of the three still have the same call letters, except for having dropped the hyphen. The only one to change is WLWC, which is now known as WCMH, although WLWD is now Channel 20 instead of Channel 2.
