What's on TV? Tuesday, August 10, 1954

On Tuesday, Herbert Hoover becomes only the fifth former president of the United States—and the first since John Quincy Adams—to reach 80 years of age, and NBC is making a day of it with remote broadcasts from Hoover's home in West Branch, Iowa. It begins with an interview with the former president on Today at 7:00 a.m., and continues on Home at 10:00 a.m. Then, the day-long celebration climaxes at 4:30 p.m. as Hoover makes a live address to the nation. Short of a state funeral, I can't recall too many times a former POTUS will get that much attention, but as we know, it isn't every day that one turns 80. You can see that, and more of today's highlights, in this Chicagoland edition.
