Around the dial

This week's opening salvo comes from Cult TV Blog, where John's review of the actress Patricia Hayes continues with some of her comedic work from the 1960s and 1970s, which gives us a great look at the versatility of her roles.

Earlier this week, you hopefully read my interview with David Hofstede regarding the second edition of his wonderful book, When Television Brought Us Together. At Comfort TV, David continues with his behind-the-scenes look at how, and why, this updated version came to be. Consider it a cautionary but ultimately victorious tale. 

At Cult TV Lounge, dfordoom reviews David McDaniel's novel Who is Number 2, the second original novel based on the series The Prisoner. I happen to own this book myself and, in fact, was looking at it earlier this week. It's a lot of fun, and I'll leave it to you as to whether or not it should be considered part of the canon.

Time now for a quick trip to the radio side of the dial, where Martin Grams looks at the lost radio adventures of Renfrew of the Mounted, the 1939-40 radio adventure program. Sadly, fewer than a half-dozen of these episodes are known to exist, so Martin shares some of the plot summaries from those missing episodes.

The actress Anjanette Comer died in May of this year, at age 86. We're only now finding out about that, and at A Shroud of Thoughts, Terence catches up with an appreciation of the many television and movie credits of this talented and lovely actress during her long and varied career.

Here's a neat reminder of something I used to see all the time when I was growing up: a product sweepstakes tied to a television series. In this case, it's a 1966 ad for Gleem Toothpaste's Batman Sweepstakes that appeared in TV Guide. First prize: a cool $50,000, and I wonder what that would be today?

And to close things out, this week "Wheel of Fortune" refers to our latest episode of The A-Team at The View from the Junkyard, one in which one of our heroes, Murdock, appears on an episode of the game show: Wheel of Fortune. Don't you just love it when television goes meta? TV
