What's on TV? Thursday, December 17, 1964

As we continue to make our way through December, we return to the Twin Cities for another week of programming. Tonight's feature Christmas show comes from Rome, where Perry Como hosts another Kraft Music Hall. It's a pretty average week as weeks go, but I'm sure you can find your favorites here.

As I mentioned on Saturday, Around the Town features metro area choirs this week and next. Today's is the junior choir from Plymouth Congregational Church. The music hall at PCC is the home of the Gilbert and Sullivan Very Light Opera Company, whose productions we used to attend every year when we lived in Minneapolis. Knowing the church's commitment to music, I'm not at all surprised their choir would be on the show.

I wrote about Perry Como on The Kraft Music Hall Saturday, but this gives me a chance to mention the Sistine Screamers again. I've never been able to understand how one of the greatest Churches in Christendom could produce such sub-par musicians. Actually, I can - but that gets more into Church politics, and we don't need that here.

You probably remember seeing Dave Lee and Pete in these listings, but you don't know much about them. Dave Lee was a gentle, longtime host of kids shows in the Twin Cities, and Pete was one of his puppet sidekicks. I often watched this show after school; it is, I believe, where I ordered my MD Carnival kit from. I never had one of those carnivals; just wanted the kit. Here's a picture of Dave and Pete.
