Ah yes, the return of Arnold Zenker! We last saw him filling in for Walter Cronkite on the CBS Evening News, and now he's a co-anchor on the WBZ news; it's always fun to see a familiar name. And speaking of familiar names, last week we saw the New England edition of TV Guide, and now we've skipped ahead one week and ten years, to the Eastern New England edition. The Boston stations are still around, but Maine is nowhere to be found, replaced by a variety of Eastern locations; compare the differences. Oh, and did you notice Issues and Answers at 1:00 a.m. on WNAC, right after The Joey Bishop Show? Perfect time for it, if you ask me!

POINT OF VIEW
|
TV
As many of us know, this was Martin Luther King's 39th and final birthday of his life.
ReplyDeleteThe Maine stations were separated out to the Northern New England Edition by this time, which by the 1980s was split into the New Hampshire and Maine Editions.
ReplyDeleteI like seeing that Boston's most prominent indie stations, WSBK and WKBG (which was renamed WLVI, W + 56 in Roman numerals, by the 1970s), were on the air at this time. WSBK kindly took the NBC game shows which Westinghouse-owned WBZ preempted for Group-W's Mike Douglas Show. Did WSBK go dark at 1 PM (NBC's unscheduled half-hour in daytime tv)? I figure the Edwin Newman NBC News update only went until 1 PM, so something had to be on then most likely.
