What's on TV? Wednesday, March 8, 1967

Interesting thing about the All-Night Movie on KGO; theoretically it's a triple feature, but each night's third feature is an episode of a TV show. Tonight, it's Hawaiian Eye; Tuesday nights are Naked City, and Thursday it's Peter Gunn. Well, it's interesting to me, anyway. What else? ABC has the TV premiere of the big-screen Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, which spawned the series of the same name. Walter Pidgeon is Admiral Nelson (don't tell Gypsy!), and Robert Sterling as Captain Crane. (I would have cast Charlton Heston, but then he would have been star of the movie.) But hey! the Seaview is still the same. You're looking at the Northern California edition.

  1. Mike Douglas's guest Ken Corday was a teen vocalist during the 60's and appeared on the show a number of times. He went on to receive a Masters in Music. But what he is best-known for is his work on his parent's creation, "Days of Our Lives" for the past 46 years. He's been the Executive Producer for 37 of those years.

    1. Quite an accomplishment - so he's still with the show now that it's on Peacock?

  2. Fun Fact about Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea (the movie):
When Irwin Allen was putting the movie together, he had a different actor in mind for the Captain, one he'd worked with in a previous movie: David Hedison!
Problem was, Hedison had a TV commitment that he couldn't get out of (Five Fingers, which was a fast flop), so Allen went with a backup, who turned out to be Bob Sterling.
My source is an interview that David Hedison gave to Tom Weaver (Eye On Science Fiction (2003), published by McFarlane).

    -While I'm here:
In the header grab, I noticed the Beverly Hillbillies listing, which I naturally had to check out.
This one's about a deposed King, who's lugging a suitcase full of his nation's currency and is looking for a sugar baby; Drysdale sees the King's stash and nominates Elly May.
What Drysdale doesn't know is that the King's cash is totally worthless ... and hilarity ensues (it says here).
The bogus King is played by Jacques Bergerac, who at the time of filming was in a full-out court battle with his ex, Dorothy Malone, for custody of their daughters ( a long and unpleasant story which you can find if you look for it).
Suffice to say that M. Bergerac's typecasting as 'continental con artist' was in full force here ...
I've been down with health woes recently; now I'm checking back entries to see if I can add anything to the pile.
Feel free to check back any time!
