Last week, we were in Houston; this week's issue travels north to Dallas. Same state, 11 years apart. Don't know if we've had that kind of yin and yang before. Anyway, here are a couple of things to note: The Red Skelton Hour features Red's famous rendition of the Pledge of Allegiance, being rebroadcast due to "enthusiastic viewer response." (See what TV used to be like before the advent of the VCR?) You can see that original broadcast here, in its original broadcast of January 14, 1969. Meanwhile, on NBC's Monday Night at the Movies, Bobby Darin stars in Gunfight in Abilene, a movie for which he also wrote the score. I can't deny that I'm impressed. How do you feel about the rest of today's lineup?

It was nice when the stations in CTZ, including those in larger markets, carried network shows, including game shows, starting at 9 AM, rather than trashy talk shows, starting w/ Donahue's. The CBS CTZ affiliates, at least those that I knew, seemed to be better about carrying network shows in the 9-10 AM hour.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny seeing KLTV in Tyler carrying THE MOTHERS-IN-LAW at 10:30 PM instead of Carson's first half-hour, but then it may have been tape-delaying the show from Sunday nights at 7:30 PM to carry a show from another network.
An hour of "Bullwinkle"?! (KFDX) Oh, those lucky kids!
ReplyDeleteRemember "Slam Bang Theater" and "Cartoon Carnival" (KTVT) with great fondness, although when I watched them (early Seventies), there was a noontime movie before the latter. Don't recall that live-action afternoon block at all.
