ALAN DOUGLAS SHOW
|
I'm pretty sure STORYBOOK SQUARES at noon on NBC is a rerun of the episode of Feb. 22, 1969, which I have on tape and should be available on YT. Paul Winchell & Tessie Mahoney and Charley Weaver also appeared that episode but aren't listed here.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the fact that a game show for children in 1969 features relatable celebrities like Abby Dalton and Nanette Fabray. Also: was "Hugh Heffner" a different version of "Playboy After Dark"? I don't remember it being only half an hour - certainly not with THAT number of guests.
DeleteI love the listing for "The Big Broadcast of 1936" (1935). Heh heh heh
ReplyDeleteThat day's GotW on NBC pit the Tigers against the division-leading Orioles with Denny McLain on the mound for Detroit. McLain's ERA was respectable coming in, but uncorked 2 wild pitches leading to a no decision and a Oriole win, 6-4. McLain's battery-mate(and current Tiger radio broadcaster) Jim Price supplied a home run for Detroit's lone offensive highlight. As for that Phils-Expos game on WFIL/WGAL, Phils won 13-8.(Thank you, baseball-reference.com!)
ReplyDeleteAlan Douglas was based in Cleveland at WKBF-61. He later moved to WEWS-TV 5 Cleveland where he began "Morning Exchange" in 1972, which ran until 1999. Though he left for New York within months, (Sadly committing suicide after the passing of his wife) The retooled Morning Exchange was said to be the prototype for ABC's "Good Morning America" and dozens of local shows of this type. As far as "Stories of The Century" and shows like it, they were shown mostly because they were affordable to the independent stations at the time.
ReplyDeleteThe science fiction and superhero cartoons make sense - but [The Lone Ranger]?
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned a few months ago on this blog, this particular adaption of TLR (held over from the 1966-67 season) was animated. It also had science-fiction elements woven into the stories (not unlike The Wild Wild West), so in a way, it was updated for then-modern viewers.
The first band mentioned in that Hy Lit listing should be Blue Cheer, not Blue Cher.
